Develop Your Sense of Expectant Curiosity
Author: Ann Strong
When things don't go our way, we often focus on the problem or our upset about the problem, which leads to more problems or upset. The next time you find yourself in a situation you don't like, play around with using your sense of expectant curiosity instead of focusing on the problem.
Try something like this: "Hmmm, so I thought I wanted to work with this new client and they don't seem to want to work with me. I wonder what will happen next. This must mean I'm going to work with an even better client. What might that look like?"
Do you see how you could dramatically improve your life with this kind of thinking rather than the more problem-focused thinking? Experiment with expectant curiosity. Call or e-mail to tell me how it works for you.
Action Steps
If you would like to develop your sense of expectant curiosity: - play a game with yourself of shifting from problem-focused thinking to expectant curiosity.
- keep an "expectant curiosity" journal for a month to record your findings.
- partner with a friend or colleague to support each other and share your results.
"Give up the excuses. Give up the drama. Give up the mess. Give up attachment to the wrong things and ideas, and use that freed-up energy to cut a wide swath for your dream to enter your experience."
- Sonia Choquette
