The Heart that Sought to Behold a Soul Author: Divine Lady
The heart that knows how to love also knows how feel alive. Daisy, as I call her, endures immeasurable problems and immeasurable delight -- the art of the living. Of late, a startling development surfaced in her midst. For a moment, she believed she caught a glimpse of her soul mate. She'd been giving much thought to what encompassed a soul mate. She determined that a soul mate is someone that grows your soul, and someone that knows your soul.
This conclusion, however, confused dear Daisy. Each decade or so, she convinced herself that she finally found her soul mate. "This person has grown my soul," she'd murmur. "And this person truly knows my soul. Fate, at long last, has united me with my soul mate." Time, however, would show her that this was untrue. The unwinding usually began as a slow dawning, followed by a deepening distance. The space of Us then flooded with muddied water; so many gates within the union sealed shut that the water could no longer flow.
"What am I failing to understand?" She asked herself. "I am a loving heart. Must I second guess my loving heart when it supposes that I have found my soul mate?" She pondered this thought for some time. "Perhaps," she said, "what I'm failing to understand is time itself." Daisy believed that her soul was eternal. Yet, Daisy's heart span was a mere seventy years, maybe more if she were lucky. Why then, should she expect to meet her soul mate in this brief human lifetime?
Souls, she painfully realized, existed beyond human time -- endlessly being pulled into the future. She imagined holding an aged Dandelion and blowing onto the soft seeds. "There, into the wind, goes a soul," she whispered, "destination undeterminable and time unknowable." She paused and lowered her eyes. Daisy now understood. The likelihood that she could one day grasp the concept of eternal soul time was petite.
The person, Daisy prophesized, who imagined long-term unification with a soul mate in this lifetime, was surely wrong. Maybe instead, all one can hope for is to capture glimpses. A wink here, and a wink there -- and over the course of many decades -- an aspect of your soul mate appears to you. Instantly, you will recognize these appearances. For in these glimpses, you learn the most important lessons of all.
"I am a lovely and sometimes crazy heart," admitted Daisy. "I will meet other charming hearts, some of which I may fall deeply in love with. I will laugh, I will cry and I will one day die. But, as a yearning heart, I cannot behold the soul of another. This majestic undertaking can only be accomplished by another soul; whose experience of time is unknowable."
