The Fitter, Fresher, All Fruit Wake Up Call
Author: Beverly Stewart

Do you sometimes wake up in the morning feeling as tired as you did when you went to bed? And even if you do wake up with a bounce do you sometimes find that your energy begins to lag by mid morning? Fortunately help is at hand, in the form of an apple or an orange, a banana or a pear. It's that simple. Make yourself up a mouth watering bowl of fruit salad for breakfast and see what happens.

What happens is that fruit, like all raw food , takes much less energy to digest than say a traditional breakfast. This is a great boost for our liver which is at its most active early in the day. Eating only fruit encourages our liver to continue the rapid elimination of the wastes we have stored within our body. Left overs from the night before as it were. This makes it easier to get rid of the toxins we already have in our system and to prevent the build up of further toxins as the morning progesses. As a result you'll feel lighter, fresher, more alert and energised .

If however, your bowl of fruit is not enough to get you through till lunchtime and you have an attack of the munchies, then eat more fruit. Don't at this stage eat any other type of food and preferably eat only one type of fruit for your snack(s). For example stick with only apples or pears or kiwi fruit or whatever, but not a combination of these and this will make it even easier on your digestive system.

Raw foods affect our body's acid/alkaline balance. The raw fibre in fruit, being alkaline forming, helps to stabilise our blood sugar levels and neutralise toxins. This makes for a much more balanced body chemistry. When our body's chemistry is in balance we feel much calmer, more collected and less stressed.

A breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, tea or coffee on the other hand is very acid forming . Add to this mix any stress we may be carrying about with us and our acid levels hit the ceiling, creating an even greater chemical imbalance. Not an ideal way to greet the day.

There are other benefits as well. Fruit acts as a mild laxative and will gently help to clean out our alimentary canal. Citrus fruits and bananas, which are high in potassium, further help by ridding our system of excess water. Thus relieving that awful heavy feeling and sluggishness that retaining fluid can produce.

Now if you are a smoker as well as a traditional breakfast eater, you may have to be doubly strong to get the full benefit here. By eating an all fruit breakfast you may feel less inclined to fancy a cigarette, so make yourself eat your bowl of goodies before allowing yourself the luxury of a smoke. Do not light up until you've had your fruit and surprisingly you may find that you no longer want to.

Bon appetite!
