What Does Food Mean To You?
Author: Thomas Herold

Do you remember the movie: "Back the Future"? The special DeLorian which ran on bananas and all kinds of other garbage was science fiction. If you were to fill your car's tank with garbage it would probably never start again. There is a chance that you would need a whole new engine.

What a lot of people do is treat their body as a kind of a special modified car. They throw in all kinds of junk food and expect that the system will work just fine. It's astonishing how long a body can function on junk input, but what stress this causes to our systems! Our bodies are much more efficient than any engine on the market.

With continual junk food input, the day will come for the body to give up. Slowly but surely, parts of the body will cease working. It usually starts with the stomach and digestive problems. The amazing thing is that if you go into the drugstore and tell your pharmacist about the problem, they will hand you some pills to stop the pain. They are very familiar with these ailments because dozens of people show up every day looking for pain relief for their stomach and their digestion system. So in way we act like this is normal. We feel sick, but this is normal. Everybody is sick, who cares?

If I tell you that sometimes the same companies that produce the food which made you feel ill in the first place also produce the antacids, would you still eat their food? It seems like the days of buying mostly fresh food at the market are over. Today in America 95% of all food we consume is packaged and produced in factories, only 5% is fresh and natural.

We decided that we want it this way. We, as consumers, have a choice whether to buy fresh food or packaged food. Sure we save time when we buy canned food or ready to eat food from the supermarket but is the time that we save more important than eating fresh food?

Pills that contain vitamins and minerals are not a replacement for fresh fruits and vegetables. Some day we may only have pills left because everybody believes in saving time. We will end up with a suffering planet filled with suffering people.

If you continue to choose the quick fix with food, the time will come when it will take its toll on your body and your health. Then you'll need time to get to the doctor, time to get your prescription, you'll need more time to get things done and you'll need more time to get new information to your brain. Your whole system will slow down, you'll grow old faster and you'll look less and less healthy.

What does food mean to you? Is it important just to get something in your belly to get past that hunger feeling? Do you try to get the food thing over with quickly so you can get onto the more interesting stuff in life? Do you eat because you feel lonely or upset? Ask yourself these questions to determine what food really means to you.

Some people act like eating is the only thing in life. Some people plan their whole day around food. Some people just eat when others share because they want to feel part of something.

What will it take for you to change your viewpoint of food? Maybe it's the thousands of dollars you can save on health insurance and doctor costs. Maybe it's that you'll feel more happy and satisfied in your life with living foods. Maybe it's the understanding that living foods are the best way to get your natural body weight. It's the natural diet, it's so natural that it isn't even a diet, it's just the natural way to eat and be fit.

Yes, fresh food is more expensive than canned food and it's also true that the food in the health food stores is more expensive than in the supermarket. You wouldn't fill your gas tank with some old potato chip oil because it's cheaper. You know that this would kill your engine. The same applies to the quality of food you take into your system.

Take the time to prepare good, fresh meals for you and/or your family. Enjoy as much time as possible eating this food and educate your kids or your partner to do the same. Try to relax when you sit down to the table and make sure nothing will disturb you during your meal. Turn off the television, let the telephone ring, answer it later. It is more important to create a quiet time in which to fully appreciate the nourishment you are receiving.
