Sit On, Don't Jump to... Conclusions
Author: Fran Briggs

We've all heard-and will continue to hear - "don't jump to conclusions," over our lifetime. However, has anyone ever taken the time to explore the incredible insight in these powerful words of advice? Let's look at an alternative approach.

"Sitting on conclusions" is a skill developed by exercising polarity, poise and practice. Invariably, you can expect to develop optimal sense of self-control and an increased level of understanding. Sitting on a conclusion, as opposed to jumping to a conclusion, allows you to step outside of the situation-and yourself! Your perspective becomes easily calmed with objectivity and it readily recognizes the truth. When one chooses to sit on conclusions in lieu of jump to conclusions, one's rationale is greatly enhanced. The individual makes better decisions and is more likely to come to resolve.

Sitting on conclusions requires that you not only restrain your gymnastic talent, but that you be impeccably patient with yourself and others. Resist the urge to elicit assumptions or encourage uncontained emotions. Accept the challenge of thinking, outside your thinking. Said another way; Sit for a minute, before you jump in it.

The willingness to sit on a conclusion enables us to "think wide." It aligns with what author Peter Drucker refers to as, "intellectual honesty." I will add that it also illustrates a disciplined objectivity. Whereas, jumping to a conclusion is always performed with "blinders" on.

Consider this: when one jumps, one is likely to skip over things-possibly the truth! When we omit the truth, we compromise reality. When we compromise reality, no one wins.

What are you approaching that you need to sit on, and not jump to? Challenge your perspective and seek the truth. See the situation through your "brother's eyes;" work towards mutual resolution. Do what's in the best interest of all parties and don't you dare...jump to another conclusion.
