It's Never Too Late to Make a New Year's Resolution

Itˇ¦s Never Too Late to Make a New Yearˇ¦s Resolution!!!

by Christine Ware, high10 Ltd

March is approaching and many people will have set out with good intentions on January 1st and listed the goals they wanted to achieve. Perhaps that could have been:

„h loosing weight
„h giving up smoking
„h learning a new skill
„h getting fitter
„h changing their job
„h making more money

I can guarantee by now that 95% of those goals will have failed to materialise. Why??? Why do we religiously set goals each year and find that after about 2 weeks we have given up?

Determination has something to do with it, but there are other tips that you can use to keep you on track. Here are my top ten tips for helping you to reach your goal:

1. Write it down! Thereˇ¦s something committal to writing it down and looking at your goal daily. Some find it helps to also sign that piece of paper. Making it appear like a formal contract.

2. Talk to yourself daily! Repeat your goal in the future tense as though you have already achieved it. I.e. I am one stone lighter and I now weight 10 stone. Your subconscious is a very powerful tool and it will work towards achieving your goal if you feed it the right messages.

3. Visualise the goal. Close your eyes, can you see yourself one stone lighter? How do you feel? How do you look? What compliments are you getting from the people around you? Do you like what you see, feel and hear??

4. Be realistic! Goals cannot normally be achieved in a day. PLAN how you are going to achieve it. WRITE IT DOWN, break it down into small steps and give yourself a target date. SET MILESTONES and decide on how you will celebrate when you achieve them.

5. Tell others! Thereˇ¦s nothing like telling the whole family, friends and workplace that you are planning to achieve something. Theyˇ¦ll not let you off the hook and you can guarantee that theyˇ¦ll mention it at every opportunity! Equally they will be there to spur you on and give you encouragement.

6. Seek support! Who can help you achieve your goal? What resources, tools, equipment could help you reach your goal sooner. What have other successful people done to achieve their goals? Study them ˇV donˇ¦t try to reinvent the wheel.

7. Be prepared for some failure! The difference between failing and achieving is that those who have little set-backs get right back on track and donˇ¦t give up at the first hurdle. Not everything will go to plan, but itˇ¦s how you deal with that that will determine whether you achieve or fail.

8. Take time out! Reward yourself, give yourself a little treat, pamper yourself, and tell yourself you are doing well. Praise yourself for keeping on track and keep visualising that winning post.

9. Be confident! Everyone is capable of doing remarkable things. You are NO EXCEPTION!

10. Hire a coach. Coaches have only one agenda ˇV yours! They are non-judgemental and will act as a support every step of the way. If you are unsure about what they can do for you, ring and ask. Be brave they donˇ¦t bite and often their first initial contact meeting with you is free. What have you got to loose?

Providing you follow the steps, keep focused and seek support I guarantee that this will be the magical formula you need to achieve your goals.

Itˇ¦s never to late to set New Yearˇ¦s resolutions, so why not get cracking right now and pretend itˇ¦s January lst 2005. Itˇ¦s never too late!!

Have fun achieving your dreams!
