Sowing and Reaping
Author: Dr. Wm G. Seavey

Every day is an opportunity for you and I to sow something into people’s lives. It can be good or it can be bad. Have you ever thought about what you sow (invest) you also reap (return)? Reaping is the return on seeds sown. Did you know there are good seeds and there are bad seeds and you can sow either one? And the seeds I am talking about here, good or bad, will always produce a crop. You have but to sow them. And depending of which seeds you sow you will reap a like harvest. A careless slip of the tongue, and injury is its product. A comment with purpose of heart, and thankfulness is its product.

If you sow a smile will you get one back? And the answer is, no, not all the time. Your intentions were good but not all soil produces a 100% return on the investment. What about a cheerful “good morning” to those you meet? Have you found that some respond cheerfully and some react negatively? This is called a reciprocal or the law of mutual exchange. Some people have great days and some do not. But hey, any day above ground is a GREAT day!

Do you remember the story of the sower and the seed taken from the Bible? As the sower went out to sow, some of the seed fell on ground that would not produce. But he kept right on sowing, didn’t he? And if you keep on sowing good seed, eventually there will be a plentiful harvest even though some seed may fall on ground that will not produce. This is called the law of averages or ratio. But you must sow some seed to get the ratio started.

I sow my writing and teaching talents in Lessons For Living. Some people receive it and some do not. But I must keep on sowing. Why? Because the possibilities of the lessons falling on good ground, which are the people who want to grow, outweigh the much smaller percent of it falling on poor ground, which are the people who do not want to grow.

What kind of a return do you want from your day? Wouldn’t that depend on what kind of seeds you had sown? Sow kindness and reap a harvest of kindness. Sow trouble and receive a like harvest. Sow disharmony and reap the same. Sow gratitude and thankfulness and the rewards are super. Sow ingratitude for the seasons and you are asking for stormy weather.

If at days end you have not reaped much of a positive harvest, perhaps you need to look back at what kind of seeds you had sown.

The rest of our Bible story says they reaped some 30, some 60 and some 100%. How much do you want from what you have sown? Here is my tip. KEEP ON SOWING! Some seeds are bound to fall on good ground.

I Wish You The Best Of Success,
