The Deeper Sides of LIfe

Some people care about them, some don't. Which are you?

Some people are drawn to looking at the deeper aspects of life. Many are not. Some people are more thoughtful about their lives. They look for meaning and purpose. Maybe they think about the path their life has taken and where they want it to go. They may wonder: How can I live a fuller life? How can I bring meaning and purpose to what I am doing? What will bring the most growth?

Some people look for depth, many do not. They appreciate heartfelt and reflective examination of themselves and the world they live in. They value intelligence and insight and are not afraid to ask probing questions.

If you are someone who looks deeply, you might think that few others are like you. A name has been given to people who are approaching their lives with care and insight (by sociologist and author Paul Ray). Cultural Creatives (CC's) are those who examine the relation between themselves and the world (and universe) they live in. Outside of mainstream media, cultural creatives generally do not know of each other and believe they blaze a trail alone.

CC's may look at current issues of importance, but they will see them as one facet of a larger picture that interacts with human life and awareness. When they examine areas of importance, they can see the ways that individuals have power to affect outcomes.

In talking about health, we can look at more than fitness and medicine. We can ask: How does the mind affect health? How can someone bring healing by changing their attitude and thoughts? What is the experience of wholeness and health? Can disease reflect inner problems? How can we promote inner health?

We might look deeply at business and economy. What is the purpose of business? How can a person find work that is most fitting and meaningful? Can a business be built when it is based on cooperation and personal values? What is the relation between financial wealth and the feeling of abundance? What should be the bottom line, money or meaning?

We might take a deep look at ecology. What is our relationship with the planet we live on? What is the relationship between the many aspects of the natural world? How can I learn to appreciate and conserve the beauty that surrounds me?

Health, business, ecology ... what do they have in common? This way of looking at things is not found in most books and magazines. This perspective does not fit mainstream religion or science or education -- though it may include any of these topics. It is hard to find a quality source of writings and discussion about this perspective.

I often use the word "noetic" -- having to do with the mind and experience. The subjective world of consciousness and experience, this is the noetic realm. People who enjoy these topics come from all walks of life, all ages and backgrounds. There are many people who share this concern but they are hard to reach. There is no publication or central meeting place for all these interests.

The Internet creates a web of communication that is intelligent and personal, global and instantaneous. From person to person, email can carry messages that highlight the inner, "noetic" realm. Email is the most fitting medium to discuss the deeper sides of life.

Some people care about these subjects. Many do not.

Which are you?
