Consider Yourself Challenged

In your lifetime you will reach many “forks in the road.” There are times when you must choose which path to take but other times your path is chosen for you. In times like these you might be afraid, scared what your future holds. It’s the old saying “the devil you know versus the devil you don’t know”. As unhappy as you might be, you want to stay on the path you are on. You want to resist the change, knowing as soon as you take one step onto that path your life will change forever. Divorce is such a path.

You are right; everything in your life will change. But just like the glass is half empty the glass is half full. Since you don’t have a choice and considering the alternative of just resigning yourself to a lower quality of life, you should look at this life altering change as a positive one. It’s up to you. Divorce provides tremendous growth opportunities that are yours for the taking.

There are a few starting out rules that you must constantly remind yourself of until it comes naturally. While you are on this path, you can’t think about the path you were on. What you had no longer matters, neither does any “should have done” or “could have done” thoughts that might cross your mind. Erase these from your thoughts. The past is just that, the past, and there is nothing you can do to change that. But you do have control over your future!

Look down this path with a positive attitude. Take stock of what you have right now and you might surprise yourself. At this time in your life it’s natural to look at what you don’t have, look now at what you do have. You have your; children, health, intelligence, friends and family etc. As time goes on your list will grow because each step you take on this path will provide you with the additional “haves” that you need to go further. Life truly is amazing!

You will have to rely on yourself, be more independent. This will allow you to get to know, understand and ultimately love yourself. Your time management skills will improve because of necessity enabling you to do all those things that you felt you never had time for. You will fully realize and appreciate how intelligent and capable you really are as you manage your own life. Your self-confidence will grow from the security you are providing for yourself. You will realize that you can do anything you put your mind to! Inner strength and pride will show on your smiling face. You will be more at peace.

These are all positive changes that you might not have developed on that “other” path. We all have amazing capabilities that expose themselves when we are challenged.
