Challenge Life
Author: Jon Gordon, The Energy Addict

As I talked with my 85 year old Grandpa Eddy the other night he told me that he still likes mowing his lawn. "I mow the front first. Then I take a break and mow the back. I look at it as a challenge not a chore," he said. Then he added "When mowing my lawn becomes a chore and I have trouble doing it, then I'll ask for help". "Challenge" not a "chore" stuck in mind. How many of us go through life as if it's a chore. We drag ourselves out of bed, into our cars and to our jobs. We struggle through life either resisting the power and potential of the present moment or passively accepting our current situation-like a child being told by his father to weed the lawn.

Yet what if we thought like Eddy. What if we took on life as a challenge instead of a chore? I believe we would see life as a series of choices, obstacles, hurdles and successes. We would challenge life instead of life challenging us. Like an olympic hurdler we would grow stronger and more powerful with each hurdle behind us. We would flow through life with a smile instead of a frown. We would choose to be happy instead of expecting to be mad. We would be thankful for each moment and each person in our life yet we would strive to learn, grow and improve ourselves. We would ask "what will life teach me today" instead of stressing "what else do I have to do today". Yes, life certainly would be more enjoyable as a challenge instead of a chore. But what about when life is a chore? Eddy knows at some point mowing his lawn will become a chore-maybe when he is 90 or a 100 years old :) And we must realize life will at times become a chore despite our best intentions and positive energy. So how can we make the transition from "chore" to "challenge" when facing the most difficult times in our lives? Like Eddy, we must ask for help. First ask God for help. Two years ago during the most difficult and dark period of my life I simply let go and prayed for guidance.

I asked for help and haven't stopped. When you ask God for help you open the pipeline to an infinite supply of spiritual energy and support. To ask for help simply say "I pray for guidance. I pray for the strength and support to get through this." You'll be amazed at the results. Next ask your friends and family for help. We need other people and their support and energy can help carry us over the mountain and allow us to run down the hill. And finally ask yourself for help. Appeal to your inner power. Wake up the part of you that wants to shine. It's there no matter how low you might feel. Encourage yourself through self talk. Say "I have the strength to get through this. I know I can do it." Instead of sabotaging your life with negative self talk become your own positive energy coach and help yourself overcome any obstacle.
