YOUR CAREER PROSPECTS
Author: RAY ROCK

Every year there are thousands of you young men and women, who are leaving school or college with the sole object of starting your working careers. The biggest problem that you face is, choosing a career that you truly love, and enjoy.

Unless you find an occupation that you love, and are enthusiastic about, you are on a never ending treadmill going nowhere, so the following points must be taken into consideration.

1) 80 percent of you will not find true job satisfaction and will drift from one job to another never finding true Happiness.

2) Many of you will not realize that your choice of career will leave you counting the days until you can escape to try somewhere else.

3) Many of you will be pushed into careers by your parents that you hate and leave you dead and empty inside causing you to become frustrated.

4) Because of the frustration you will grow to hate your career and everything or anybody associated with it.

There are lots of things to take into consideration when choosing your career:

A) Your Environment, Where would you like to work indoors or outdoors, in an office, shop, factory, hospital or traveling?

B) Your Duties, Do you like driving, helping people, looking after animals, taking care of the sick, a career with excitement as in the fire brigade or police? Do you mind getting your hands or cloths dirty?

C) Your Hours, Do you want to work office hours 9 to 5 Monday to Friday, shift patterns of days and nights, do you mind overtime working seven days a week. Will your choice effect your social life by having to go to work when your friends are out clubbing enjoying themselves?

D) Ambition, How far do you want to go in your career, do you want to reach the top. What is required for you to achieve your goal, what qualifications do you need?

C) Dress Code, do you like the idea of wearing a uniform, do you like dressing smartly for work or you would rather be in overalls, hands on?

D) Your Mind, do you want a career that will always be stimulating your mind, sending you new challenges every day, are you keen to learn new techniques to broaden your outlook on life?

There are other things to take into consideration, such as obtaining an interview to start your career, the interview itself and the chances of your success. Being successful at your interview there other things to consider such as medical aid, injuries both on duty and off duty, pensions schemes, holidays both statutory and annual leave, maternity leave to name but a few.

Ray Rock has been a free lance construction manager for over thirty years and has seen young people become disillusioned more times than he cares to remember. So he has wrote a book with the sole purpose of helping all you young men and women help you choose the career that suits your own circumstances.

All the above are covered in depth in his book YOUR WORKING FUTURE, The Guide to Choosing a Career and Being Successful.
