What Do You Know About Fat, Skinny?
Author: Larry R. Cappetto

I earnestly desire to gain weight as much as many of you reading this article would like to lose it. I believe what I am going to share with you here is both simple and yet, profound!

I am 5¡¯ 10", 145 pounds. What do I know about weight gain?

I have no secret formulas, no instant diet drinks, and no hyper advertising scheme to sell you. What I do have is the answer about how to effectively loose weight and KEEP IT OFF!

Interested? Then read on.

It is not realistic to believe taking a diet pill or drinking a shake is the answer to your weight loss. Some people, who, are sucked into a slick advertising scheme believe if they try some new weight loss program their extra pounds will suddenly disappear like a magician waving his hand over a hat and saying, "Abracadabra!"

A magic weight loss program is just that¡¦it is MAGIC! It is not real. It is make believe. Some people have loss hundreds of pounds only to gain it all back again. Why is this?

Two reasons: First, the main focus with dieting programs is losing the weight - not keeping it off. Secondly, the secret to weight loss is not another diet program.

Without writing another book on the subject, I would like to simply make a statement: "Diet fads are exactly what they imply ? they¡¯re a fad!" Fads as we know come and go. I wish most diet fads would go away.

Innocent, desperate people, seeking some kind of help to weight loss are being sucked into these ridiculous weight loss programs. They are spending a lot money and finding little help.

In my opinion there is no such thing as a diet fad, or, weight loss program, which provides long lasting results. Taking pills, drinking diet milk shakes, or, eating so-called low fat food is not going to produce long lasting results.

The only way to truly lose weight and keep it off is through a CHANGED LIFESTYLE! A changed lifestyle is what brings forth-permanent results. Of course, this means discipline and commitment on the part of the individual desiring to lose weight.

CHANGED LIFESTYLE

What you need to do is inventory your life and decide what needs changing. This is where you will need to do some homework. Many people know what they eat is wrong, or, that they eat too much. Some need to learn about proper nutrition habits and begin to practice them. Others need to start exercising regularly. This is a positive change producing long lasting health benefits.

If we really think about it, weight loss isn't that hard. The hard part is coming to terms with the fact you have a problem and need a radical lifestyle change. You must change your attitude if you are going to change your lifestyle. "Attitude is Everything!"

We must begin to think and see ourselves like we want to be. Then our actions will follow us to victory. It is the "doers" of this message who will be blessed, no the "hearers" only. You must "act" upon what I am sharing with you. The key to overcoming weight gain is changing your lifestyle! This is a decision you must make. I cannot do it for you. I will help and encourage where I can, but there comes a time in your life when only YOU can change your style of living.

With me, I had to finally hit bottom before I would truly and sincerely look up and make some permanent changes in my own life. On several occasions over the course of ten years I would try to change and eat healthy for a few weeks. Soon though, I was right back to my old habits (self), eating wrong again.

I never really took the time to learn enough about proper nutrition. Literally, what I was putting into my mouth was killing me. It took a severe anxiety attack and accompanying ride to the Emergency Room in September of 1992 to bring me to my knees and senses. That experience "scared" me into changing my lifestyle.

For me it took a near tragedy to turn my life around, nutritionally speaking. Hopefully, you will not have to hit rock bottom to change.

When I was down I needed help. After being diagnosed with hypoglycemia in 1992 I started a quest for knowledge. This came after several years of wanting to change my eating habits but still getting away with eating wrong foods (or so I thought.) One day it all came crashing in on me and I paid a dear price for my health.

All of us will pay the price someday for, "good health." Some of us will choose to pay the price through a disciplined lifestyle; eating right, rest, exercise, and a positive mental attitude. Others will pay the price through sickness and disease and the financial costs of healthcare, doctors and medicine.

I needed to find foods that agreed with my ailing body. This was accomplished through trial and error. I spent months researching low blood sugar - its affects and causes. I read books and articles, tried different foods and vitamins. I went to my doctor, saw a intuitionalist and had many tests done. I was hurting and needed help.

Although I turned to the medical profession first, I found most of my help and answers on my own. There was not a lot of information available on low blood sugar (hypoglycemia.) So when I found something I took it to heart.

Now, it is not a matter of will power when I abstain from wrong foods. Rather, it is a matter of, "survival." If I don't eat right I pay for it in my body. I came to that place in life where I got serious with myself, shook off the dust and said, "That is it!" I was fed up with the results I was getting.

The Desperation Zone

Why are some people able to stop smoking and others are not? I think people who finally kick the habit come to the same place in life I experienced. I call this, "The Desperation Zone." When I hit bottom I was desperate to find answers. Thank God I found them. It took a lot of hard work, but for me, desperation opened the door of opportunity to learn more about nutrition, food, my body, and blood sugar disorders. Desperation was a key to my recovery.

"Desperation is the mother of invention!"

When you arrive at the, "Desperation Zone," you will find the help you need. I guarantee it! People who quit smoking have reached the desperation zone. Alcoholics who stopped drinking were in the desperation zone. If you want to lose weight and keep it off you will have to go through the desperation zone.

So, how much do you want to lose weight and keep it off? Are you ready to commit to make the change? This decision is yours. A diet drink or pill is the easy way out yet provides no long term benefits. Don't be sucked into this mentality. It is a deception! It is not a true picture of reality. Changing your lifestyle will produce the long term benefits you are looking for.

Why Am I Over Weight?

It is not hard to lose weight. The trouble I see with people is keeping the weight off. I find very little information written telling people how to keep those unwanted pounds off once it is lost. How many of you have experienced in your own life, or, know someone who has lost weight only to gain it back? This is where the rubber meets the road. How to keep the fat off?

Since there are more overweight people today (both young and old) than ever before, the subject of weight loss needs to be addressed.

Wrong eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle contribute much of the overweight problems we see in America today. It is all around us in epidemic proportion. Food today is in abundance. We are an overfed nation!

Unless there is a medical reason for in your body, your weight problem is probably associated with a wrong lifestyle. You most likely eat too much and, or, eat too much of the wrong kind of foods.

Some people are overweight because of guilt in their lives. Others overeat because they are lazy, or idle. They have nothing else better to do. Some people are overweight because they were abused physically at some point in their lives.

Still others eat too much because they have a poor self-image of themselves. I believe a poor self-image is why many people remain overweight (even though they may be dieting.) They see themselves fat, and consequently they remain in this condition.

If you're overweight, don't hate yourself! Stop and change the way you see yourself (on the inside of you.) Today, start seeing yourself at your desired weight.

"As a man thinks within himself (or, reckons in his soul) so is he!"

Still others overeat because they do not like themselves. If you find yourself in this category then find some help. Do not go a day longer living the way you do. Make a quality decision today to change. You can change your lifestyle!

I have never accidentally eaten anything, have you? YOU choose to eat what YOU will. If you choose to eat too much today, then you have already made another choice¡¦to weigh too much tomorrow!

SUMMARY

The same principles I used to battle and overcome low blood sugar will also work for you in your quest to lose weight and keep it off.

Try to surround yourself with others who will help and support you in you efforts. Wrong associations will only bring you down. Keep things on a positive note whenever possible.
